Fernhurst Football Club News story

Fernhurst Sports First 9-1 Barnham Trojans Reserves Saturday 24th of November West Sussex Div 4 South. 16-0 was the target for Fernhurst to go top of the league outright! Barnham, who were enjoying a decent run of form, unbeaten in the past couple of weeks, turned up looking organised and different prospect to the side we steamrolled a few weeks ago.   Fernhurst were on top from the off, camped in the Barnham half, left-back Davis in for the absent Ryan Eves quick to spot the opportunity to press on and effectively leave Fernhurst 3 at the back, probably 2 or 3 more than required.  Munt smashed the ball home from short range to put Fernhurst 1 up, or so everyone thought, goal ruled out despite rattling the stanchion.  Morton’s fiercely in swinging corner then appeared to be hooked out from deep in the Barnham net. 2 nil up and still 0-0 it looked like it could be “one of those days”.  Davis pretty much took things into his own hands scoring two stunning goals that left no doubt that they had crossed the line. 2-0 up and Davis relishing the freedom down the left.  Moore added a third and 3-0 at half time albeit a good score wasn’t a true reflection of the dominance.   Fernhurst started the second half with their standard shaky 5 mins, however Munt scoring a wonder goal to settle the nerves 4-0.  Barnham did strike back with their only attempt on goal, 4-1 and still Fernhurst can’t find that elusive clean sheet. Far from inspire Barnham, it seemed to have the opposite effect, Fernhurst now appeared to be able to score at will, adding a further 4 goals, 2 for Matt Ayres, who’s got a taste for it now. The first of the season for the immense Dave George and the third perfect Hat-trick from Moore.. He assumes when he gets his sixth hat-trick he’ll just get a box of champers! Not quite the 16 we’d hoped for, however with a bit of luck and better officiating it could have easily been. The mighty fern joint top of the table, only behind to Del Utd on goal difference, set to play their game in hand next Saturday at home to Witterings, promises to be a tough fixture especially with some key players missing, but some talent returning.    West, Allcock, George, Feargrieve, Davis, Ayres, Austin, Cobby, Moore, Morton, Munt, Bower, Brindley, Williams. Goals: Matt Ayres (2), Harry Munt (1) , Phil Moore (3) Dave George (1) Lee Davis (2) MOM Lee Davis
