TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

05 Nov 2018

LG United First 3-6 Fernhurst Sports First Saturday 3rd of November West Sussex Div 4 South.  WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE! Level on points with a game in hand going into the game Fernhurst knew they had a good chance to go top of the league.  Away to next to bottom of the league, it should have been a formality, the pitch was brutal, freshly ploughed that morning it wasn’t the best surface for Fernhurst’s slick passing style of play.  Fernhurst at full strength remained playing a flexible 4-5-1 formation, with Austin being pushed on and Cobby offering cover in the centre of the park.  Moore broke the dead-lock 10 minutes in with a nice finish from outside the box, an early contender for November’s goal of the month. It was Moore again forcing the LG defence into errors his hard work and trickery setting up Stafrace to put Fernhurst two up inside 15 mins, cruise control! 3-0 from the penalty spot, Marc Cobby belting the ball home.  A drop off in concentration and LG got one back to make it 3-1 very much against the run of play.  The fourth goal was a great team goal with Moore tapping home his second after some neat interplay between Morton and Strafrace.  Moore completed his hat-trick with a neat volley and Fernhurst went in at halftime 5-1 up and it could have been more!      Ayres, arguably the player of the first half had to leave early so Allcock shuffled the pack.  Davis, Bower and Brindley all being used in the second half. Again, Fernhurst struggled to match their first half display, the game was won, and the points were in the bag. 6-1 Dave George heading into Phil Moore’s path, Phil got his 4th of the game and 20th of the campaign, not bad for a centre back.  Fernhurst still created and pushed to reduce the superior goal difference that Del United have, however a couple of mistakes and general drop off in team display saw LG get 2 back! 6-3 the final score and again an air of disappointment in the changing room despite being top of the league we still strive for better! Played 9 won 9, top of the league and two good cup runs.  Next week we travel to Selsey for what promises to be a very tough game.  Having met just a couple of weeks ago, Fernhurst coming out narrow winners 2-1, we know we are in for a battle to progress to the last 8 of the Div 4 charity cup.
