Fernhurst Football Club News story

AND AGAIN!!!!!

29 Oct 2018

Fernhurst Sports First 2-1 Selsey Reserves Saturday 27th of October West Sussex Div 4 South.  Having banged in an impressive 21 goals in their last 3 games, Fernhurst were both confident, and lacking match time against strong opposition.  Selsey are a decent side with their first team playing a good standard in the Southern Combination Football League. In a cagey first ten minutes it soon became clear this would be no walk in the park for unbeaten Fernhurst.  Both teams probed and created half chances that were either saved or squandered, it looked like Fernhurst had broken the deadlock, after some good build up play, Cobby’s shot looked as though it had crept under the keeper and crossed the line, no goal the verdict.  0-0 at half time. Changes were made at half time, Morton and Allcock replaced by Bower and Davis. The second half followed the pattern of the first Selsey just shading the game and taking a well-earned lead, possibly an own goal… Fernhurst behind for the first time since the 10th minute of the season opener. Ayres was replaced by Munt, and Fernhurst needed to dig deep.  Davis pressing on from right back took the game to Selsey driving into the box to see his shot cannon off the post, ricochet around the box before falling back at his feet to draw Fernhurst level at 1-1.   Toby Austin’s performances have been consistently immense, he battled for 90 mins in the centre of the park, Austin turned provider for the winner riding challenge after challenge before squaring for Stafrace to tap home!  Selsey piled on the pressure for the last 15 minutes and the Fernhurst defence stood strong, it looked for all money as if Selsey had got an equaliser, but West thought otherwise producing a man of the match save.  2-1 to Fernhurst, a fantastic effort against the strongest opposition faced so far.     Fernhurst travel to Chichester based side LG United in the league next week knowing just a point will see them go top of the league, they will of course be gunning for all 3!
